How not to design an experiment

Duration

40 minutes

Audience

Data scientists and statisticians.
As data scientists we generally use machine learning and data mining techniques but in certain instances we have to gather data. Experimental Design deals with how to gather data and how to build experimental plans.

Course Objectives

Experimental Design or Design of Experiments (DOE, DOX) is the design of any task that aims to describe or explain the variation of information under conditions that are hypothesized to reflect the variation.

After this session, you’ll have a better idea why designed experiments are often preferred over observational studies and how you can apply such techniques when you need to gather data.

Prerequisites

Basic statistics knowledge.

Course Overview

In this session we’ll walk through traditional experimental design techniques: the dos, don’ts. Topics such as protection for known and unknown enemies, factorial & split-plot designs and variance maximization will be touched upon.
