When to join an AWS Discovery Day

Have you heard about AWS Discovery Days? These are free events which give you an introduction to AWS. You will be introduced to AWS cloud computing concepts and foundational infrastructure services. The events are always organised by an authorised AWS Training Partner and delivered by an authorised AWS instructor.

If you’re thinking “great, but why would I want an introduction to AWS?”, we list a couple of scenarios in which attending an AWS Discovery Day could have advantages for you.

1. When you want to migrate your business to the cloud

Deciding you want to migrate to the cloud is one thing, but there are still a lot of decisions to be made after that. Choosing the right cloud provider is one of them, and that’s where AWS Discovery Days can help. Since the event introduces you to AWS and its services, you will have all the information you need to make an informed decision. After attending a Discovery Day, you will have explored the basic global infrastructure of the cloud, and you will have a deeper understanding of core services and security services within the AWS Cloud.

2. When developing a cloud strategy

Once you decide to go into the cloud, having a clear cloud strategy is critical to make your migration successful. According to Gartner, organisations that do not have a cloud strategy will significantly increase their risk of failure and wasted investment. When developing a cloud strategy, define clear end goals that align with the company’s overall business goals, and explore which benefits different cloud services can have for your business. AWS Discovery Days are great events to attend when you’re developing a new cloud strategy for your organization since you learn all about AWS’ core services and the benefits these services can have for your business.

3. When you want to learn AWS cloud computing skills

With more and more organizations moving to the cloud, there is a high demand for cloud engineers and cloud architects who have the right skills available to guide the migration to the cloud. There currently is a global shortage of professionals with cloud expertise: in the Challenges of Cloud Transformation report, 86% of respondents indicated they believe this talent shortage will slow down cloud projects. Since AWS is the cloud provider of choice for many businesses — AWS has a 31% market share among cloud hosting providers — it is definitely a market leader. Learning AWS cloud skills could help you position yourself for different (or greater) job responsibilities, and open doors to new career opportunities. The AWS Discovery Days are a great way to gain an overall understanding of AWS and to explore the global infrastructure of the AWS cloud before diving into AWS courses and certifications.
